#sapsNW [NIGERIAN MIGRANT ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED DRUG DEALING IN POTCHEFSTROOM]

A 35-year-old Nigerian migrant was arrested on Friday, 3 July 2026, by members of the #SAPS in Potchefstroom for allegedly dealing in drugs, after police acted on information received.

Police received information about suspected drugs concealed in an alley behind a local bakery. The information was immediately operationalised. Through further investigation, police followed up on additional leads, which led them to a flat where the suspect had allegedly been seen.

The suspect was searched, and police allegedly found drugs, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash, in his possession. He was immediately arrested for allegedly dealing in drugs.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Potchefstroom Magistrate's Court on Monday, 6 July 2026, on a charge of dealing in drugs.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, condemned the sale and distribution of illegal drugs, describing them as a serious threat to the safety and well-being of communities.

A routine patrol by members quickly turned into a chase after a suspicious vehicle was identified in Houghton by our partners.

The vehicle was tracked onto the freeway, where the suspect was successfully apprehended. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of multiple licence plates and a suspected military-grade signal jammer.

The suspect has been handed over to SAPS for further investigation.

MEYERTON - A truck driver kidnapped during a hijacking in Heidelberg was located unharmed and three suspects were arrested after an abandoned trailer was recovered in Mooiland, Meyerton on Monday, 16 June.

At approximately 09:00, Fidelity ADT Vaal, SAPS and other security partners received information about an abandoned trailer in a rural area of Meyerton. Response teams found the trailer and container loaded with kitchenware and electronic goods that had been hijacked in Heidelberg. The driver was abducted during the incident.

Further investigations led officers to a truck linked to the hijacking, where two suspects were arrested. Later that day, additional intelligence prompted an operation at a Mooiland property, resulting in a third suspect being identified and arrested.

The kidnapped driver was also found safe. SAPS continues with investigations.

Following a SaferCity alert received regarding a hijacked vehicle, Blue Hawk Tactical units mobilised to the last known location alongside Cartrack.

A search of the area was conducted, resulting in the vehicle being located concealed between parked taxis. No suspects were found on scene.

JMPD responded and arranged for the vehicle to be impounded for further processing and investigation.

JANE FURSE BUSINESS ROBBERIES: GOODS AND VEHICLES WORTH R1 MILLION RECOVERED:

A swift, coordinated operation by SAPS and private security companies led to the recovery of stolen vehicles and suspected stolen goods worth more than R1 million following two armed business robberies in Jane Furse, Limpopo, on 18 June 2026.

Key developments:

Police initially identified a Toyota bakkie with false registration plates linked to burglary cases.

The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Shortly afterwards, two armed robberies were reported at retail stores in Jane Furse, where suspects stole cellphones, electronic accessories, airtime vouchers, cash and a laptop.

Police tracked two suspect vehicles and engaged in a high-speed chase on the R579.

The suspects abandoned a Volkswagen Polo and a Fiat Kombi, allegedly fired shots at police, and escaped into nearby bushes.

Recovered items included:

618 cellphones
1 laptop
6 Amplify chargers
5 mobile Wi-Fi devices
2 signal jammers

The total value of the recovered vehicles and goods is estimated at R1 031 061.

Investigations revealed the Fiat Kombi had been reported stolen in the North West, while the Polo was fitted with false registration plates and linked to a rental company.

Limpopo Police Commissioner, Thembi Hadebe, praised police and security partners for their rapid response and effective coordination.

The suspects remain at large and investigations are continuing.

The operation highlights the power of public-private partnerships in disrupting organised crime and transnational smuggling networks.

Seven suspected syndicate members arrested in Limpopo and North West

A joint operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo and North West has led to the arrest of seven individuals believed to be part of a violent crime syndicate responsible for multiple business robberies, armed attacks, and a fatal robbery in Matlematlong.

The group, consisting of six men and one woman aged between 31 and 49, was apprehended following coordinated efforts by Northam CIS, Rustenburg TRT, Mogwase CIS, Mogwase Vispol, and Northam Rural Safety.

The breakthrough came after a business robbery on 12 November 2025, during which a victim was killed. Investigators linked a white Toyota Fortuner used in the crime to the suspects, who had been terrorising communities in Northam, Mogwase, and surrounding areas. The vehicle was intercepted near a Northam school, resulting in the arrest of the driver. Subsequent questioning led police to Rethabile Village in Amandelbult, where additional suspects were taken into custody.

Police recovered an AK47 rifle, two 9mm pistols with removed serial numbers (one confirmed stolen from SAPS), 36 magazines, 70 rounds of AK47 ammunition, 110 9mm cartridges, and stolen property including a TV, speakers, cigarettes, cellphones, and clothing used during robberies. The Toyota Fortuner and a stolen Toyota Tazz were also recovered.

Investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are not ruled out. The suspects are expected to appear in court on Monday, 17 November.

Three teenagers were arrested for theft which included possession of 90 ID books and 83 ID cards.

This is according to the South African Police Services (SAPS) in a statement on Sunday.

The police say the suspects are aged between 18 and 19.

“A joint operation by the Fezile Dabi Trio Task Team, Sasolburg Crime Intelligence, and Deneysville Detectives has led to the arrest of three suspects aged between 18 and 19, for possession of suspected stolen property on Thursday, 13 November 2025. Members seized two televisions, two microwaves, 90 ID books, 83 ID cards, and several SASSA cards.

“The suspects were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the possession of these items.”

3 SUSPECTS ARRESTED

REPORT:
On 1 October 2025, a delivery vehicle was hijacked in Tembisa during which the driver was shot and hospitalised. The victim remains in hospital and is reported to be paralysed as a result of the injuries sustained.

Following investigative leads, a multi-disciplinary team mobilised and acted on intelligence regarding the suspects and the vehicle involved in the armed robbery and attempted murder.

The team successfully identified the suspect vehicle and executed a tactical stop, resulting in the apprehension of one suspect on scene. Follow-up operations, based on additional intelligence, led the team to the Thenong Section, where a second suspect was arrested.

The operation proceeded to a second address, where a large quantity of stolen parcels was recovered and another suspect was taken into custody.

All arrested suspects were handed over to the SAPS for further investigation and processing.
