You guys hear me harping about Data Sovereignty. This guy gets it.

Pakistan has moved like lightning on Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) Cloud Engines as a form of sovereign digital infrastructure. We’re an early national-scale adopter while other middle powers are still thinking.

Cloud Engines are configurable, dedicated subnets. They let operators choose node providers, hardware, and geographic locations for data residency, compliance, and sovereignty, while being secure. They are an alternative to the hyperscalers like AWS, Google, Azure.

While hyperscalers have incredible ecosystems and value added services, IP Cloud Engines are optimized for software that AI agents create and continuously update.

In February 2026 the Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA) and DFINITY signed an MoU for a dedicated Pakistan Subnet / sovereign cloud focused on data localization, AI-native systems, and reduced reliance on foreign hyperscalers.

The first Pakistani Cloud Engine went live May 2026. It started with 4 nodes from 4 independent local providers across Islamabad-area and Lahore data centers:
* pk-is-001 (Virtury, Islamabad)
* pk-is-002 (Multinet, Islamabad)
* pk-is-004 (Nayatel, Islamabad)
* pk-lh-001 (yLinx, Lahore)

This was arguably the world’s first national/sovereign Cloud Engine deployment of its kind with no international hyperscalers.

Obviously IP Cloud Engines do not have the scale and compute capacity of Hyperscalers but they’re perfect for specific use cases like National Cloud for Public Sector.

Here’s my analysis of why we’re doing this. I think we’re going to replace WhatsApp, which Israel used successfully to target the entire Iranian civilian and military leadership, with a national messenger. I further believe that that national messenger will be one and first part of a Superapp that will contain:

* Messaging
* Digital identity & authentication
* Payments / financial services
* Government services (tax, health, education, licenses, etc.)
* Third-party mini-apps or services
* AI-powered features

The third party mini-apps and services is a huge opportunity for local developers. There’s no limit to these apps. China has millions of these. Find a problem. The backend including embedded finance will be provided by the Superapp. You just build the front end, send for approval and it gets approved and goes live on the Superapp app store!

Remember in times of war this means your core digital services keep running. No hyperscaler can turn you off.

No country does more with less on core military and national tech than Pakistan.

Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED. Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.

The official signing ceremony will be on Friday, 19 June in Switzerland.

We would like to thank the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran for their commitment to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in this mediation effort, the great leadership of State of Qatar, for their support in reaching this agreement. I would also especially thank the visionary leadership of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of Türkiye for their immense contributions in this regard.

With the agreement now in place, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week. These pre-implementation discussions will lay the foundation for the technical talks and the official signing ceremony.
