I’ve been in Cincinnati politics since I worked at City Cable as a high school side job. I’ve watched the same network of activists, consultants, unions, and politicians keep power while the city pays the price.

I refuse to watch Cincinnati get bled dry so a small group can keep their grants, contracts, and influence.

They have an alternate agenda. Protect the system that pays them. Expand the equity talk. Treat every failure as proof they need more power and more money.

Look at the record.

Nearly half of Cincinnati Public Schools students, 45.6%, are chronically absent. The same district is running a Safe Sleep Lot so families can sleep in cars on school property. Teachers unions spend their energy defending DEI and identity politics while kids can’t show up or read.

We pay activists to sit in official roles and treat the police like the main racial power problem. City leaders spent six figures painting and repeatedly restoring a giant Black Lives Matter mural in front of City Hall. They found time and money for Connected Communities, equity consultants, symbolic projects, and a Climate Migration Readiness Plan. Meanwhile, the Duck Creek floodgate suffered a mechanical failure during the latest storm and neighborhoods flooded.

They can blame the rain all they want. The city can’t control the weather. It can control whether critical infrastructure is maintained and whether engineers’ warnings are taken seriously. Somehow there’s always urgency for ideological projects. Never the same urgency for the basic systems that keep people safe.

Same pattern with poverty. For decades the so-called Black leaders and Democratic politicians told Black residents and poor Appalachian communities they would save them. The poverty numbers barely moved. The people making the promises kept getting more power, more contracts, and more influence. I call them poverty pimps. The communities stay stuck. The pimps do just fine.

When you point this out, the response is always the same. Smear the messenger. Call you racist or fascist. Change the subject. Try to make people doubt what they can see with their own eyes. That’s not debate. That’s how they protect the arrangement.

If a football team kept running the same handoff every down and the defense still couldn’t stop it, you’d fire the coaches. Somehow we don’t.

These people have failed at delivering safe streets, functional schools, and the basic infrastructure a city is supposed to provide. You already see it. The only question is whether enough of us stop rewarding them.

Change your voting habits. Talk to your neighbors. Stop letting them run the same play while the city declines.

Cincinnati deserves better than this.
