@AdamBLiv In 1971 gold was mostly still illegal to own and had a fixed price of $35 an ounce. These numbers are misleading. In 1980 the median home price was $47,200 or 77 ounces of gold which in today's dollars is about $319,000. One must consider the environment of the year compared.
