Happy Wednesday!
“Comparison is the thief of joy.”
It’s such a true statement. The moment we begin comparing ourselves to others — whether we come out looking “better” or “worse” — our joy starts to fade. We either feel discouraged because we think we’re behind, or we feel quietly superior because we think we’re ahead. Either way, comparison steals our peace and contentment.
The truth is, nobody is better than anyone else — even when we think we are.
The Bible gently corrects this mindset:
“What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?”
— 1 Corinthians 4:7
“Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.”
— Romans 12:3
Everything we have — our abilities, our growth, our opportunities, even our capacity to work hard — is a gift from God. When we truly believe this, we’re freed from the exhausting cycle of comparison. We no longer have to prove we’re better than others, and we no longer have to feel “less than” them either.
We can simply walk in gratitude for what God has given us and extend grace to others instead of quietly judging them.
So today, let’s choose to step off the comparison treadmill and protect our joy.
