I singled out the unvaccinated people only because they, as compared to fully vaccinated people, are more likely to develop severe symptoms once infected by COVID.

Wearing masks protects the Unvaccinated people. Even fully vaccinated people can still be carrying COVID and infect other unvaccinated people, who could get very sick.

Wearing a mask reduces the amount of droplets (which carry the virus particles) released when someone breathes/coughs/sneezes. Droplets are 10-20 times bigger than the viral particles.
