Lately I’ve been struggling during Mass. I’ve become hyper-fixated on certain behaviors around me, that I perceive as spiritually or liturgically damaging.

Examples include: the casual chit-chatting in pews before Mass, the Protestant hymns on guitar, the sign of peace greetings that spill over to the Agnus Dei, the EM’s pumping out hand sanitizer and distributing communion, the orans posture or hand holding during the Our Father, the altar girls, the applause at the end of Mass. The list goes on.

I am not only distracted, but filled with irritation and frustration. I’m angry that people don’t know better, angry that priests don’t care to correct any of this, angry that I don’t have access to a better alternative. I don’t even know if this is righteous anger or sinful judgment against others. I do not want to feel this way.

The worst part is that I didn’t even KNOW to worry about most of these things when I become Catholic. I learned about them here on X.

And I’m not even arguing that there aren’t legitimate reasons to be upset by some (or all) of these behaviors. But I am struggling to ignore them and focus on Christ. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. I miss the joy I had at the beginning. Please pray for me.

They talk about naming streets after famous Islamic conquerors. The even discuss the name "Andalusia" — a reference to Al-Andalus, the name for Spain when it was ruled by Muslims a thousand years ago.

Make no mistake, there are still many Muslims who see the West as ripe for conquest — and they are gleefully working to make that happen.
