@scottygb If you've not already, check the reflexes in your leg, knee jerk reflex. The loss of strength could be slipped disc & might be worth pushing for a second opinion. Just from similar exp it's worth ruling out if nothing else. Hope you get it sorted
In 2019, Caster Semenya was told she could no longer participate in sport unless she took hormone suppressants.
As a doctor, I find this unacceptable.
Medicine is prescribed for the benefit of the patient's health - not because a sports committee dictates it.
Genetic advantages are seen throughout the sporting world.
🏊♂️Michael Phelps has a super large wingspan and lung capacity.
🤸♀️Simone Biles is only 4ft8, allowing her to retain skills she's had since childhood (while other gymnasts have to re-learn new techniques as they grow.)
🏀Boban Marjanovic has the largest hands in the NBA, and is so tall he can dunk without jumping.
Do we ask any of these athletes to retire?
Do we ask them to undergo surgery to reduce their size?
Do we ask them to take growth hormones, or drugs that alter their abilities?
Absolutely not.
The truth is, because testosterone is linked to gender identity, it has once again been forced into the spotlight by the press.
While I'm relieved on the European Court's decision Semenya's rights were violated, it's a disgrace it even happened in the first place. Hopefully this can be an educational moment for everyone.
1 in 5 women have high testosterone levels.
And genetic advantages are seen in all corners of the sporting world.
Can we all start celebrating these incredible human beings, instead of trying to cut them out?
@Dominic___James @LGBTFdn_Rob@mbpearl@alumniUoM Thanks so much for taking part, what a great event! Such a fantastic panel and so many interesting discussions. Love my job!

Almost every woman I know has been sexually assaulted, & every woman I know supports trans rights. Nearly all of us knew our attackers, and the assaults didn’t happen in toilets, but in our homes, workplaces, other places we should’ve been safe. We’re still 100% pro-trans rights.

An image to show how the Fallowfield Loop could look if its was upgraded from a relatively narrow, unlit shared-use path, to one with separate paths for cycles and pedestrians. Along with a new buffer zone for plants and lighting.

If #ItsASin left you feeling you had no idea what gay men went through in the 80's, ask yourself who you are failing to see and understand today. Empathy in hindsight is not useful to those who need it now. Avoid the regret of tomorrow, act today #TransLivesMatter
