It is astonishing that @TimesAlgebraIND has chosen to attribute concocted sentences to a TNIE column — within quote marks — and then taken it upon itself to blow up a denial of this wilfully distorted, paraphrased version.

How can anyone adjudicate upon the truth value of an imagined text?

In the event, it is the Times Algebra tweet that ends up being sensationalist, defamatory and malicious — to use the words in its own tweet. We expect the offending tweet to be taken down and followed up with an apology.

We at TNIE take our journalism very seriously, and have the courage and grace to own up to any missteps, as we have done in this present instance. If this is the usual benchmark of veracity for Times Algebra, it is safe to say we are not in need of its ombudsmanship.
