Late last year, we partnered with @inSupplyHealth to examine how HCD insights can inform adaptive implementation throughout a project’s lifecycle, focusing on improving supply chain efficiency in East Africa.

Adaptive implementation combines iterative problem-solving with user-centered insights to tackle dynamic challenges. Unlike traditional approaches, it evolves based on real-time feedback, promoting sustainable and scalable solutions. inSupply Health applied this approach to design resilient, people-centered supply chain solutions in Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia.

Thirty years after the Beijing Declaration, where ambitious commitments were made, we should be celebrating progress. Instead, we’re confronting setbacks - anti-rights movements, stalled policies, and deepening inequalities.

As we mark #IWD2025 under the theme, '𝑨𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑨𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏,' the HCDExchange calls for practitioners and partners to move beyond promises, and intentionally work to dismantle systems resisting empowerment and equality for women and girls, using community-led solutions, intersectional action, and human-centered approaches.

We are counting down days to our upcoming event with @argusoft and @PATHtweets in Zambia this coming Wednesday.

We will discuss how human-centered technology can transform community health information systems, making them more effective, sustainable, and scalable. Argusoft will share a case example of how they developed a digital health information system using design approaches, and PATH in Zambia will share insights on how they adopted and implemented this platform, highlighting key adaptations, challenges, and lessons learned.

Read our quality and standards framework, which draws upon best practices related to ASRH, design, and youth engagement to deliver eight principles with corresponding tips and resources. The framework is intended to guide the safe, effective, and inclusive practice of HCD to ASRH programming. Although these principles were developed for applying HCD to ASRH interventions, they also have relevance to broader global health programming.

As MLE experts collaborate with designers, traditional measurement methods are being reimagined to align with HCD’s values and complexities.

The HCDExchange hosted MLE experts in 2024 to discuss the evolution of MLE approaches, techniques, learning, and strategies, specifically exploring how impact is measured, refining evaluation techniques, and ensuring that learning keeps pace with innovation in global health.

In 2022, the HCDExchange invited funders, public health implementers, and HCD designers for an in-depth learning circle on how HCD+ASRH has evolved, achievements, existing and emerging gaps, and areas of focus for future areas of learning.
