BREAKING: Federal Government receives the report of the Independent Investigative Panel on alleged corruption, abuse of power, torture, and inhumane treatment within the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Recidivism has dropped dramatically from 11,616 inmates in 2023 to 1,382 in 2025, reflecting the impact of ongoing rehabilitation and reintegration programmes.

Currently, 62 inmates are pursuing postgraduate studies, 261 are enrolled in undergraduate programmes, 1,125 are undertaking formal education, while 9,582 are receiving vocational skills training.

The government says the report will drive reforms aimed at transforming correctional centres into institutions of rehabilitation, restoration, and reintegration, ending dehumanisation, corruption, and discrimination while preparing inmates for productive lives after custody.

FACT CHECK: Misleading Claims on Viral Helicopter Video

The video being circulated does not show a Nigerian or Fulani-linked operation, nor does it provide any evidence of mineral smuggling in Nigeria.

What is actually seen is a Russian Mi-8MTV-1 helicopter (registration RA-25659)—a model long associated with various civilian and government utility roles. Notably, it is not a Turkish aircraft, as Turkish-registered aircraft carry “TC-” identifiers.

The footage shows individuals handling white sacks in a remote sandy location, but there is no verified information on the location, contents of the sacks, or the identities of the people involved.

Claims linking this clip to Fulani terrorists, Nigerian minerals, or smuggling activities are unsubstantiated and misleading, and appear to be a case of recycled old footage being repurposed with false context.

🚨 BREAKING: MAJOR MILITARY STRIKE IN NIGER STATE

Nigerian troops have reportedly dealt a heavy blow to the JNIM terror network, neutralising over 200 fighters in a precision ambush in Niger State. According to local intelligence, the terrorists had gathered for a high-level meeting with a visiting commander from Mali when they were intercepted and struck by troops.

This is what consistent military action does. It denies them safe havens and reduces their capacity to regroup freely.

What we are seeing is not random violence but the predictable reaction of a weakened network under sustained offensive pressure.

This is why continued air support, intelligence-driven operations, and joint task force coordination remain critical. Every strike on their enclaves weakens their structure further and brings us closer to lasting stability.
