Popped in to @ChartwellNT (on my day off) as honey made from the hives there is available *today*. 🍯
#Beekeeping was a longstanding feature of the Churchills' lives at their country home, with hives on the estate since before #WW2. ✌️🐝
Today I had the pleasure of attending the book launch of ‘Churchills Citadel’. This new and exciting book is the work of my friend and colleague; @katieculture
This account of all things Chartwell, Churchill, & his preparations for war, makes for an incredibly captivating read!
The Cut Flower Beds in the walled garden at @ChartwellNT provide an ongoing supply of freshly grown flowers for use across the property.
Lady Churchill’s Head Gardeners would often send fresh flowers by train or car for use at Downing Street when the family were in London!
One of the perks of the ‘great summer cut back’ means there is an abundence of material for drying. We have a long term plan in mind for these to be used at various locations across our garden, so keep your eyes peeled for them at @ChartwellNT in the next year or so!
@katieculture@ChartwellNT Not as early as me…! I’ve normally had a brew and cut a lawn by then! 🤪
Although… how resplendent does the house look in the first morning light?! We lucky few…! ☺️
I was privileged to get a sneak peek of the pre-release edition of #ChurchillsCitadel. This book is written by my talented colleague @katieculture & will be a must for all those with an interest in #WWII, #Chartwell, & #WinstonChurchill !

Managed to catch this brief clip of a Spitfire flying low over @ChartwellNT today! It flew a full, low-level circuit of the estate before flying off to the south.
My very last read through the #ChurchillsCitadel's proof, to catch any final tweaks before it goes to print, feels like giving a long goodbye hug to an old friend. 📖
@GaryBankhead@ChartwellNT@nationaltrust@katieculture Thanks for your kind words @GaryBankhead! You visited at the peak time during our first flush of roses. Hopefully the unseasonal rain showers won’t knock them about too much! Gardens at Chartwell are a pleasure to work. I’ll be sure to pass on your praise to the rest of the team!
Within the Kitchen Garden at @ChartwellNT (surrounded by walls created by the very hands Sir Winston Churchill himself!) lies the long herbaceous border. This border provides us with a kaleidoscope of pastel colours from early spring through until late autumn.

The cut flower room at dusk.
From this humble little room tucked away within the garden, the team process and condition flowers from the garden to be used throughout the principal rooms in the house.
