Last week the Headsmart Group were joined by Anna from @ZooLabUK who took us on a trip around the world with different animals. It was a wonderful sensory experience to be able to hold some of the animals. This activity was funded by a grant from The Prince of Wales Foundation.
We were once again joined by Stephanie at the Headsmart Group. The session had an autumnal theme. Everyone enjoyed playing conkers and we did a 'conker cannon' around the table. Next we made paper aeroplanes and had a go at flying them and seeing whose could fly the furthest.
Emma has been working with Ash to help her learn DJing skills. They highlighted the skills needed to DJ a set and how using these skills can be beneficial following a brain injury. Ash DJ then played us three tracks, demonstrating transition techniques.
Last week we were back at the Headsmart Group. Liv McLennan who led an interactive session involving music & movement. It was a warm day but we sat down doing gentle movements & creating many different sounds using our voices. Thanks Liv for such an excellent inclusive session.
If you’d like to find out more about the Superhero-Tri event that our member Ash recently took part in (at the same time raising money for the group) then check out this Channel 4 coverage of the UK's only inclusive, mass-participation sports event:

Do you enjoy homemade cakes & cream teas? If so, come along this Sunday 3rd September to Stratford Sub Castle Reading Room from 2.30-4.30pm. Cakes by New Sarum WI members who live in the village. All proceeds this month go to Headway, Salisbury & South Wiltshire. 🍰
Last week we were joined by Stephanie who led a session focused on how we are all unique. We all did a fingerprint and also drew round our hand and compared these. We discussed childhood scars and whether we'd ever been stung by a wasp or bee. Everyone really enjoyed the session.
We've had lots of great conversation topics at our Headsmart Group with members being busy with gardening, trips out and activities. Volunteer Joyce also kindly did a fabulous ukulele session - regular ukulele players and some new ones joined in.
Huge congratulations & thanks to our regular group member, Ash, who recently completed the @SuperheroTri event & raised a fantastic £1080 for the group! Ash trained really hard in preparation to complete the 150m open water swim, 1km walk & 3km cycle. Well done Ash & thank you!
The Headsmart Group had an exciting session last week catching up on our volunteers & group members recent travels ✈️ & celebrating our member's debut as a festival DJ!🎵 We were joined by Tom from District Sports South, who led a Boccia match (almost) following Paralympi rules.
Last week's Headsmart Group focused on using the Boccia targets. We had small groups, practising communication skills, scoring, turn-taking & discussing strategies. A kind group member donated a VERY large bag of @YorkshireTea, keeping us well-supplied! 😄☕️
Headsmart Group member Ash makes her debut as a festival DJ, taking to the decks at the @StandonCalling Festival in Hertfordshire this weekend. Everyone at Headway Salisbury wishes her the best of luck and we can't wait to hear all about it. Go Ash DJ!
@HeadwayUK has launched a survey to seek the views of brain injury survivors and their families regarding proposals to close rail ticket offices across England. Please complete the survey below , which will run until Wednesday 19 July: https://t.co/4Tp6sfUD9v
At the Headsmart Group last week we were joined by Tom from District Sports South who led the group in some seated exercise & a mini indoor curling tournament. These activities are great for working on movement, co-ordination, and practising communication & social skills.
At last week's Headsmart Group we had a great discussion, accompanied by photos to use as visual cues, about the summer solstice & Stonehenge (as it is so close to where the group meets.) We also talked about Glastonbury and festivals. We finished off with a game of Boccia.
Ash, a Headsmart group member, is training hard for the @SuperheroTri on 12 August, raising funds for Headway Salisbury & South Wiltshire. Ash has been working hard on cycling, using a specially adapted bike, walking & has been having swimming lessons. https://t.co/qaFfeULssw
We were delighted to welcome Trudy & Mark from Flamed Earth Ceramics back to the Headsmart Group for an amazing workshop! Their expertise & support, along with our incredible volunteers, made it a creative and enjoyable experience. We can’t wait to see the fired & glazed results!
