I’m loving having the World Cup here in America because it’s like we’re having a wild sleepover party with the rest of the world while they go on adventures here
Anthony Bourdain: “…the world is, in fact, filled with mostly good and decent people who are simply doing the best they can. Everybody, it turns out, is proud of their food (when they have it). They enjoy sharing it with others (if they can). They love their children...”
This is undoubtedly one of the best stories from @ScotlandNT fans during the #WorldCup tournament so far.
Due to the high ticket prices and travel costs, many fans found it difficult to afford attending the event. However, this was a creative way to secure safe accommodation. 🏴
Where Saving Private Ryan happened today, and where 19 Bedford Boys died. It's getting dark now in Normandy. D Day, my favorite day in history, is drawing to a close. Please follow me on Substack. https://t.co/y6G2nmqJbu
With Dan Farley, A Co. 5th Rangers, who crossed Omaha Beach speechless with me a decade ago on his first return to where he fought on D Day. He died at 91 in 2017. Now, in 1944, he's on a ship bound for Normandy. See more: https://t.co/EEg00P06y6
The annual Pentecost tradition (today!) at Rome's Pantheon is a moment of extraordinary beauty.
It occurs every year on the seventh Sunday after Easter. At noon, after the Holy Mass, thousands of rose petals are dropped through the oculus of the mighty dome.
As the petals fall, a choir sings "Veni Sancte Spiritus," known as the Golden Sequence, a masterpiece of sacred Latin poetry.
This is to celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Virgin Mary and the Apostles.
The rose petal ritual likely dates back to 607 AD when the pagan temple became a Christian church.
Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot - Carl Sagan
i love project hail mary. i love movies that don't end in tragedy. i love movies that gives us hope. i love movies about friendship and soulmates and connecting with someone and them ending up being so important that you'll try to give them everything. i love movies that are fun.
Carroll, now a bright spot on our Moon, because four people, who traveled farther from Earth than any human in the 4.5-billion-year history of Earth has ever been, loved someone so much, they carried her the whole way there.
I'm not one for New Year's resolutions or any of that, but if I may be bold enough to make a suggestion, read a book, preferably a novel, for just five minutes every night before bed. We know via scientific brainwave studies that it will improve your mental health and give you more empathy.
My wish for you all: May 2026 be your best year yet. 💙
