@CatDavisAhmed You’ll never be able to get through to everyone, but you’ve reached more people than you’ll ever possibly know. I’m grateful for all of that medical research and innovation, and I’m equally grateful for people like you.
@LaraLDLR @TheFHFoundation “No one in my family has to die from this anymore.” — so true! You are giving your little one the gift of a long and healthy life by testing early and treating long before it’s too late. ❤️👍
My brave boy!! His first blood draw to find out if he inherited FH from me. Finding out young because #FHCantWait No one in my family has to die from this anymore. #KnowFH @TheFHFoundation #Pediatrics#heartdisease#brave
Opposite Day: Drug May Save Lives, So Drugmakers Offer To Cut Price
Praluent
not only reduced the risk of
#heartattack#stroke
or #chestpain by 15%
but also appeared to ⬇️ risk of dying😲

“We need to reset our expectations” on small benefits for new drugs when added to already good treatments such as #statins, said #ACC18 Chair @JTKuvin on new Praluent results. @AP @MMarchioneAP https://t.co/8SlaDwZbIb
Praluent succeeds in major trial; Will insurers pay? Valentin Fuster, who critiqued the trial at the meeting but was not involved in the study, said the data show that what is considered normal LDL-C today may be too high. https://t.co/jmzWt7iJvp @nationallipid
@AlastairMcA30 When I was growing up it was non-flat 7 UP soda and Saltines (non-Americans may have to look those up). That combo worked wonders. I’m sure it was just a mom-influenced placebo effect, but who cares? If a placebo effect helps you from puking your lungs out, good enough for me!
@CMichaelGibson This is a trick question. I want the medication that is most effective at lowering my cardiovascular risks, improving the quality of my life and extending my lifespan. Price may be a barrier to the most effective medicine, but how do I put a price tag on my own life?
New oral LDL-C lowering drug: bempedoic acid
New mechanism, possibly ATP citrate lyase inhibitor
~25% lower LDL-C
Outcomes trial 12K planned
? receive FDA approval based on LDL-C lowering
Due to cost PCSK9i, are we headed to statin + ezetimibe + bempedoic acid ahead of PCSK9i? https://t.co/9gSEYvKG2g
Feb. 28 was wheels-up day after five years in Hong Kong. My family has officially moved back to the U.S. Thanks to jet lag and a wide-awake 18-month-old, I got 10,000 steps in before 6 a.m. on my first night back in America. 🙂❤️ #KnowFH
@DrMarthaGulati@ThanassoulisMD@Drlipid Important point. Similar to how many drugs lower LDL (or raise HDL) but have shown little CV benefit. For LDL & CV benefits, statins work beyond doubt. Initial evidence suggests PCSK9i works. Other drugs: results mixed. I plan same caution for Lpa-lowering drugs. Await evidence.
@HeartShapedWoes@Drlipid If your lp(a) is high:
1. Consider PCSK9i as they lower lp(a) as well as LDL (if not already on these)
2. Important for your family. FH is a serious disease but FH with high lp(a) appears to be worse.
3. You could be eligible for a Lp(a) lowering trial.
