@AnInnes3 There are a few good poets left, and when we find them, we need to promote them. Ex. Jeramy Dodds; he relatively recently wrote an excellent new translation of the Poetic Edda, focusing on keeping it poetic.
Listen to my amateur reading of the second poem from Jeramy Dodds's translation of The Poetic Edda (with apologies for several likely mispronunciations): https://t.co/p1oQKCf8lQ
They blessed the boats on Thursday at the docks.
By Friday, the wind was high, and late in the night
came torrents. To cancel a dive because of showers
creates an elemental paradox.

If you're in the Kamloops area, consider attending the Indigenous Film Festival running from 27 September to 29 September. The Indigenous Film Festival is featuring a series of collaborative quilts made from three of my classes from Thompson Rivers University. #tru#yka
Thought I’d review an often overlooked translation of the Poetic Edda; the 2014 one by Jeramy Dodds.

Dodds is a Canadian professional poet and academic, and his translation shows a focus on keeping it poetic, with a strong understanding of the Old Icelandic poetic form.

Canadian author Alice Munro, the 2013 Nobel Prize winner for literature, has died at the age of 92.
Her ability to transform the mundane into the extraordinary made her one of the most significant literary voices of her time - or any time, and she will be deeply missed.
Devastated to her about Alice Munro’s passing. Last month I reread all of Alice Munro’s books. I felt the need to be close to her. Every time I read her is a new experience. Every time changes me. She will live forever.
In celebration of her life and work, we’ve unlocked two stories by Alice Munro: “Spaceships Have Landed” and “Circle of Prayer.”

50% of the kids in care in Canada are Indigenous. They only make up about 8% of the child population.
Currently, 91% of the kids in care in Manitoba are Indigenous.
There are more Indigenous kids in care at this moment in Canada than in residential schools at their height.
