My thoughts are with the Jewish community here in Alberta and around the world more than ever this year as we mark the start of Hanukkah.

On what should be a joyous day, the horrific attack that took place at a Hanukkah celebration in Australia today is an awful reminder of our duty to stand together against antisemitism, and defend our freedoms to practice religion without fear or persecution.

Lighting the menorah has always been a symbol of resilience and defiance, and that light will always win out over darkness. May we find hope and healing together over the next eight nights.
