Happy birthday to long-time Cascia Hall and Bishop Kelley head football coach Angelo Prassa, born on this day in 1931 in Chicago.
Former Cascia Hall and Bishop Kelley head football coach Angelo Prassa was born in Chicago on January 24, 1931 and attended Saint Leo Catholic School in Chicago. He later attended the University of Tulsa on a football scholarship.
After graduating from TU, he served in the U.S. Air Force and began his teaching and coaching career at Cascia Hall in 1957.
In 1960, he and his wife Dorothy moved to Michigan where Prassa took a job with Phillips Petroleum Company. In 1962, convinced his true calling was to work as an educator, he returned to Chicago to teach and coach at Mendel Catholic School. A year later he went to St. Louis to teach and coach at Augustinian Academy.
In 1966, he returned to Tulsa to once again coach at Cascia Hall. He later accepted the coaching position at Bishop Kelley in 1975, where he coached the Comets to a state championship in 1981. He was named Tulsa World Coach of the Year that same year.
Prassa retired following the state championship, but returned for one season in 1985, leading the Comets to the district title and a 10-2 record.
In 1991, he was inducted into the Bishop Kelley Hall of Fame and in 1994 the Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Fame. In 1998, Bishop Kelley named its new stadium "Angelo Prassa Field" in his honor.
Prassa continued to serve the Tulsa community after his retirement in 1996. He coached the junior high football team at Bishop Kelley, delivered bread for Catholic Charities and drive patients for the American Cancer Society to appointments.
Prassa passed away in 2002 at the age of 71 and is laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery in Tulsa.

Lost in the shuffle, but had a chance to check out what Nick Sidorakis and @Heckgolf are doing at Page Belcher last week at the Black Wall Street Rally Golf Tournament. The future is bright for municipal golf in Green Country.
