@eta_swap@bugbytesinc@hedera@hashgraph That said, if the bytecode for the contract is small (around 4kb), no file creation occurs given the transaction fits in a hedera transaction (max 6kb) so the relay in the case would not see an incremental cost.

The difference you highlighted exists indeed, but that's because when you deploy through the JSON/RPC relay, you're not paying for the file creation costs that may result, the relay is. Run a relay yourself, you'll see this
