In August buster came off the chain where he had spent his life. It involved a tough negotiation to get him out of there. I was told he was a vicious and threatening dog.
Today his story is complete… (1/6) 🧵
Exactly 9 years ago today, I had my crazy injury where I tore my ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL, ruptured popliteal artery, snapped the hamstring off my fibula, and stretched my peroneal nerve causing permanent “drop foot”, which makes it so I can’t lift my foot up, basically being paralyzed.
Sad to think my skate career would come to an end at age 24, especially now that I’m 33, I look back and just trip out on how young 24 really is and how much more skating there was left to do.
I’ve been through lots of ups and downs of how to mentally handle something I loved doing getting taken away from me. I’ve even gone through a phase where I took it out on skateboarding itself, I basically didn’t want to talk about it, think about it, see it… nothing. I had to fully forget about it.
But the last 2 years I started finding my way back to thinking about it and watching it and trying to be involved again one way or another.
One of the things that really got my mind to open back up to skating, was judging for @StreetLeague. It just reminded me of traveling and hanging out with all my old friends, which made me realize that skateboarding itself wasn’t even what I fell in love with in the first place, it was just about creating friendships and memories with them.
Also throughout the process of mentally accepting skating back into my life, the idea of @AbdCollectibles was born to help preserve the history of skateboarding and the amazing moments that everyone remembers growing up. This project is something I work on every single day and is very special to me and it’s been so fun to do a deep dive on what made me love skateboarding in the first place.
It’s been a tough 9 years to be honest, but going through the ups and downs of it has made me better and I am grateful for that.
And thank you to everyone that supported me through my whole entire skateboarding career.
I could ramble for two hours about this shit. Thank you everyone! ❤️❤️❤️
