@AlyssaJoyJaffee Yes! I have unfortunately been shocked at how brazen some people can be. Throwing this back...what questions in retrospect would you have asked?
Thank you @DrPanMD for all your contributions to the house of medicine, public health and California as a whole. It was quite an honor meeting you at #cmaHOD this year.
You will be missed, @DrPanMD! "If Dr. Pan has indeed earned the title of vaccine hero now, as Time magazine named him, he got there because of what he learned in community health centers about standing up for people who couldn’t speak for themselves." https://t.co/Yp87DbxTAA
In 1974 country singer Bobbie Gentry said "'Fancy' is my strongest statement for women's lib, if you really listen to it. I agree wholeheartedly with that movement and all the serious issues that they stand for--equality, equal pay, day care centers and abortion rights."
@healthcareandy Behavioral nudges 'work' on a population level. But you need a large N to see the effects. The effects an any particular individual are not necessarily discernable or meaningful
@grahamwalker Or time answering those kind of questions = time I don't get to spend with family, or just eat my lunch in peace, or get my recommended amount of daily exercise
@grahamwalker 3) physicians should be compensated directly for doing this work. It cannot simply be added on to our duties. We need either time carved out or additional recompense.
@Ask_Tia I hope they have special training on women's mental health, ie. PMDD, peripartum, TTC. Many fully fledged psychiatrists aren't comfortable or knowledgeable about these conditions.
@choo_ek Even though I work in mental health, it still took me a hot second to post this reply. I had to fight the inner voices saying "what if your future employers find out about this!"
@choo_ek I'm a psychiatrist and I've taken antidepressants to help me through some hard times during medical school and residency. I continue to go to therapy, and this experience of working on my own mental health has also helped me in so many ways, including to be a better doctor.
https://t.co/ZqzsjjSSRH touching narrative that exposes "the culture within the medical community that makes suffering easy to overlook or hide; the trauma that doctors comfortably diagnose, but are reluctant to personally reveal, for fear of ruining their careers." 1/
It's an unsustainable strain that leads to doctor burnout, and can lead to doctors losing touch with the humanity within themselves and their patients. Which can them perpetuate medical disparities when doctors see patients as separate 'others' from themselves. 5/
