I've been keeping bees in Cumbria for over 20 years. Supplying Honey online, & local shops throughout Cumbria and the Borders. I also attend Farmers' Markets.
As Dandelions start to flower, please remember they are a valuable early food source for honey bees and other pollinators.
Think of them as a plant and not a weed.
Mouse guards have likely served their purpose by now. Unusual for mice to look for a winter nesting spot now. Pollen, important for colony spring expansion, can sometimes be dislodged by mouse guards
Feb and March can be hard months for honey bees. They've survived the winter but are vulnerable to uncertain weather as colonies try to expand. Starvation is a real issue.
Hefting to judge weight, adding fondant, possibly pollen patties and emergency syrup feeding are options.

All honey isn't made the same. The taste depends on the flowers the bees have visited, often providing unique flavours.
You don't get that with mass-produced, store-bought brands, often imported from abroad.
Love British Honey!🇬🇧
