“It is far too early to let this 25-year-old woman die when medical treatment is available that could prevent her death.”
I’m representing the extraordinary family of an anorexic & autistic woman who now weighs 19kg. https://t.co/LC4cFztckP
"This is particularly troubling as it shifts the responsibility for neglectful services onto the individual; the statement becomes ‘the patient’s emotional needs are too complex’, as opposed to recognising where the services provided are insufficient to meet a patient’s needs."
@northernassist what training do you give your staff around supporting those with disabilities please? Your conductor on the 8:46am from Crewe to Manchester Piccadilly seemed to struggle in their approach today with a disabled passenger and was not supportive or helpful
National service would cost £2.5bn pa. Imagine what we could do with £12bn per parliament to spend on young people - lift children out of poverty, fix the broken care system, improve support for MH, invest in education, rebuild youth services. It's a long list & not a gimmick.
How can a child in care cost £281,000 a year? Ask wealth funds that have councils over barrel
Great article @GeorgeMonbiot
The same, of course, happening in Child Mental Health inpatient care outsourced by NHS to #Priory#Cygnet etc #Cashcows https://t.co/V6YJT1Chqp
Even worse, why are we still using ‘complex needs’ to describe children and young people? People are not complex. However @HTempestPhoto need to undergo immediate disability training. Shocking and disrespectful. Shall we erase one or more of your much loved family?
Heading home. Two days of answering ‘Yeah…’ a lot. That felt fine in that space. Listening to Owen and Tom talking about family life was ❤️. #JSTLaughingBoy
#Oliverscampaign@AQuinnUnbroken story is horrific worse still its not unique This torture & abuse happens to most autistic people & people with learning disabilities who are incarcerated in these institutions which is mostly funded by the NHS which means YOU are paying for this

What a day…so grateful for the support of clerks, colleagues and especially family. Amongst many highlights was turning round after bowing to the Lord Chancellor to see an entire row of junior barristers who were my current or former pupils and juniors 😊
@KatyElphinstone As others have said, thanks for highlighting these as qualities. I really like them and would agree. I’m just struggling currently as the non ND community around me tend not to appreciate some of these as qualities…or, they do, I’m just not experiencing the acceptance of late.
On Wednesday 27 March 10-12, we will be hosting an online stakeholder webinar about the progress of The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism.
