Historic ruling today. The CJEU has struck down Hungary’s anti-LGBTQ+ law, and invoked Article 2 of the EU Treaty, our founding values, as an enforceable legal standard. This is what we fought for.

We stand with @zgurmai_EN, @PES_Women President and Hungarian MP, and are deeply concerned by the continued prosecution of Ms. Gurmai for allegedly “violently obstructing the authorities” during a protest against Viktor Orbán’s government.
This accusation is baseless and politically motivated, and it constitutes a clear attempt to criminalise the democratic opposition - a tactic straight out of an authoritarian playbook.
We will continue supporting Zita Gurmai and others who are standing up for democracy in Hungary.
Europe has the right and duty to ensure that digital spaces are governed by principles of accountability, transparency, and respect for fundamental rights.

As we kick of #16Days of Activism, let's build a safer online and offline world for every woman and girl.

On International Day for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence, I reaffirm a message I shared often during my EC mandate: Equality is not optional — it is a right.
We must continue to invest, educate, legislate, and listen.
A safer future is possible.
#EndGenderBasedViolence
Ten years ago we established the UN International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

✅promoting role models
✅addressing stereotypes
✅fostering inclusion
✅increasing funding and targeted programmes
The world needs science, and science needs women. 👩🔬🧪
Yet, they remain under-represented and struggle to get recognition for their achievements.
