I actually went through every rushing TD because I was curious whether this was true.

Josh Allen: 81 career rushing TDs
Lamar Jackson: 36

Yes, Allen scores from inside the 5 more often. But here’s the problem with calling his record “stat padding”:

Rushing TDs from MORE THAN 5 yards:
Allen: 30
Lamar: 24

Okay, let’s move it back.

More than 10 yards:
Allen: 15
Lamar: 11

Allen STILL leads.

Lamar does lead on true long-distance TD runs of 21+ yards, 8-4, because Lamar is an incredible open-field runner. Nobody disputes that.

But you could literally ERASE all 51 of Josh Allen’s career rushing TDs from 5 yards or closer and he’d STILL have more rushing TDs from outside the 5 than Lamar:

30-24.

So no, a 45-TD career gap isn’t explained by Josh “stat padding” at the goal line.

And the funniest part?

Lamar’s 36th rushing TD came yesterday from the 5-yard line — with Derrick Henry in the backfield.

Allen’s 80th came yesterday from 21 yards out.

But I guess only one of those counts as “stat padding.” 😂
