It’s with a heavy heart we announce we are leaving Twitter. Since 2020 we have created creative projects, celebrated their milestones, found collaborators and made real life friends here. But this site has not represented our values as Washingtonians for a while now.

Our thoughts will be on Patreon and BlueSky, where we’ve created a “starter pack” of DC and global aviation journalists worth following.

For years we’ve clung to hope this platform would once again find its “north star,” but that hope has faded.

GOOD NEWS: The Senate just passed the ROTOR Act, legislation I introduced with Sen. Cruz that will increase safety for commercial and military aircraft operations near high-volume airports.

There’s more work to be done, but the passage of the ROTOR Act is a step towards making certain that all who fly are safe and feel safe. Watch my full remarks on the Senate floor.⬇️

Thank you, Senator Cruz and Senator Cantwell for your continued safety leadership and for highlighting NTSB’s longstanding concerns regarding “see and avoid” in congested airspace and the need for ADS-B In and Out. Tune in live now:

[Flightradar24 @flightradar24]

On Friday, JetBlue flight #JBU1112 was reportedly involved in a near miss with a military tanker aircraft while climbing out of Willemstad, Curaçao, en route to New York. The military aircraft appears to have been operating without an active transponder, rendering it invisible to both air traffic control and nearby aircraft.

Pilots reported to ATC that they visually acquired the aircraft while passing through approximately FL333–FL334, prompting them to descend to avoid a collision. Flightradar24 data shows the JetBlue aircraft halting its climb and briefly entering a descent at around 21:04 UTC.

Quick question to @HelicoptersofDC :
Do Ospreys count as helicopters?
We just had 2 just fly over.

.@NTSB Chair @JenniferHomendy: "The NTSB vehemently opposes section 373 of the National Defense Authorization Act or NDAA…it does not in any way enhance safety, in fact, it reverses safety changes made after the midair collision..."
