Leaders of today, no longer tomorrow!

While meeting Kenyan 🇰🇪 #diaspora yesterday evening in Cardiff, Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿, a 9 year old girl asked me this question: ‘what are you going to do to make the experience of diaspora better?’ I responded that as @KenyaMissionUK we would listen and co-create solutions together. A little while later, she presented me with a memo that she had written as the meeting went on. She had three clear ideas:

- “May be we could add a mini parliament of children who help make decisions”;

- “We could also have child ambassadors who give input when new laws are made or written”;

- “Similarly, to the last idea, I think as the High Commissioner, you should focus on taking input from children in particular”.

Positioning Kenya as a Premier Investment Destination

1. The Kenya High Commissioner to the UK, H.E. Maurice Makoloo, engaged Atam Sandhu, CEO of DMA, on deepening Kenya–UK trade and investment partnerships, advancing investor-led collaboration and promoting the Kenya International Investment Conference (KIICO) 2026 as a gateway to high-impact opportunities in Africa. At his request DMA agreed to partner with KHCL to reach out to investors and partners expand trade and investment in 🇰🇪

2. In a separate engagement with Samantha Cohen of the Commonwealth Enterprise & Investment Council, discussions focused on unlocking Commonwealth networks to drive green growth, scale investment flows, and support priority sectors including energy, manufacturing, agritech and innovative startups. The conversations underscored Kenya’s commitment to diaspora engagement, strategic investor matchmaking, and building sustainable, future-oriented partnerships especially supporting Kenya’s robust #Startups to scale up.

3. H.E Amb @mauricemakoloo also hosted the Eastern Africa Association delegation at the Kenya High Commission in London 🇰🇪🇬🇧. The engagement reaffirmed our shared commitment to deepening the UK–Kenya strategic partnership, advancing trade and investment cooperation and strengthening collaboration across priority areas. We value the EAA’s continued support in promoting Kenya’s economic and regional ambitions including the agreement to co-host a business roundtable in the near future.

4. Burning the mid-week oil, the High Commissioner welcomed and engaged diaspora leaders from across the UK. Discussions covered consular services, diaspora wellbeing and welfare; collaboration and coordination for mutual benefit; diaspora investment opportunities and government assistance; support to young Kenyans including the ongoing Kiswahili programme and other cultural initiatives; partnering to share the #KenyanStory; and strengthening community group coordination.

The High Commissioner reaffirmed the leaders’ role as Kenya’s ambassadors and valued partners in our national journey. To ensure urgent responses to Diaspora wellbeing which remains a priority for Kenya, the leaders mutually agreed on strong coordination and timely communication moving forward. #WajibuWetu
