@NotInSeddon The reason I stopped building a Baines website years ago. The quality images were used to make copies so I pulled the plug. Sad that we have to withdraw from what was intended to become a free public display.

@rarecards_fcc Davros was a tobacco company, Cida was a chocolatier. I wonder if these were issued with Chocolate Cigarettes hence the scarcity ? Interesting set indeed.

@AncientLoyal_ @bainescards1 I guess we will probably never know for sure but he (Baines) did supply cricket cards from the early to mid 1880's. A few W.G.Grace cards have surfaced recently, Gloucester based. I am not fully convinced Sharpe was printing them pre 1890 but the topic is now widely discussed.

@bainescards1 I have always wondered about these cards, given Wanderers only played one game per year after 1881 against Harrow at xmas. Would Baines have really marketed them to such a tiny audience in the South ?.

I also have a few "Wanderers" football & rugby some from after 1887 for sure.

@bainescards1 @Rovers What year do you reckon ?, he wasn't captain in any of those three finals as it was McIntyre. Cap looks to be 1886, fantastic card. He was the one who played against 11 man Burnley on his own !!
