@matthewdmarsden Once you realise that ethnicity is a cultural concept you will understand why Scots don’t consider themselves English. More Scots than English have ginger hair yet gingerness is not what they feel distinguishes them. NB, they are mostly but not exclusively white.

@matthewdmarsden Your problem is getting physical attributes like skin colour mixed up in a concept which is cultural. Remove that & whilst you may find a majority of white English, Scots, etc, colour/ race isn’t a defining characteristic, any more than hair colour.

@rtxtec @BBCNews I have never heard of anyone being run over by a person. By a car or a bus maybe, but no one has ever said I was hit by a person unless a person hit them rather than a car. This is how the English language is used. Happy to assist. I assume you are not from the UK 😉

@rtxtec @BBCNews The car will have hit the people as well as the clothes they were wearing which is the significant issue. Clothes are made of much lighter material than cars. Be careful, your clothes won’t protect you so use the green cross code.
