Burham and his allies' complaining about Britain being 'in hock to the bond markets' and wanting them to 'fall in line' misses the point entirely.
Bond markets matter because governments have become dependent on borrowing vast sums of money. If politicians do not want markets to exert influence over policy, they should start by getting spending and borrowing under control - neither of which Burnham or his acolytes want to do.
