On #UHC day, we remind all that #malaria control is essential to UHC and that the @GlobalFund is the world’s largest international contributor to malaria programs. We need the @EU_Commission to come forward and pledge.

In 🇱🇸 #Lesotho, clinics are closing, nurses laid off & people living with #HIV are rationing pills or walking hours for treatment that’s no longer there - all because of sudden #aid cuts. The EU must back its words with action and pledge €800M to @GlobalFund.

[The Associated Press @AP]

The nation of Lesotho long had the world’s second-highest rate of HIV infections. But over years, with millions in aid from the U.S., Lesotho put together a health network to slow the spread of the epidemic.

Then President Trump signed an executive order freezing foreign aid.

Every $1 invested in the @GlobalFund generates $19 in health and economic returns, making it one of the world’s best investments. €800M for the Global Fund’s next phase is a strategic investment in everyone's prosperity.🌍💡https://t.co/XHS4NdDLFl

➡️About 4,000 girls & young women in SSA acquire HIV every week. TB killed 1.25M people in 2024. Nearly every minute, a child < 5 dies of malaria. Words alone don’t save lives, investments do. The EU must pledge €800M to @GlobalFund to keep fighting these epidemics. #soteu2025

[ONEinEU @ONEinEU]

📽️Diseases know no borders. Global health isn't charity, it's security. Now is the time for the EU to match ambition with action by pledging 800M€ to the @GlobalFund, demonstrating leadership in global health and investing in its own health security. #soteu2025

🚨 “Europe must take the lead on global health” – @vonderleyen
The EU has a chance to turn words into action. A strong pledge of €800M to @GlobalFund will save lives, prevent health crisis & strengthen resilience. Europe is ready to lead, let’s prove it! #SOTEU2025 #GlobalHealth

[ONEinEU @ONEinEU]

📹 On the eve of #SOTEU, our Youth Ambassadors took to the streets of Brussels to ask: why does global health matter, and why should Europe invest in the @GlobalFund? 🌍 Tomorrow, @vonderleyen - we count on you to champion a €800M pledge for better health, brighter futures.

This is shocking. It must now be independently assessed how many millions of deaths will result in the slashing of the aid budgets by certain European countries.

This is the impact that smart investments, action, and advocacy can have — congratulations, Suriname!

Together, we can #EndMalaria.

[THREAD]🚨New @POLITICOEurope piece says that the @EU_Commission intends to add conditions to its development investments.
This move would damage trust & undermine the EU as a global partner.
Here's 5 reasons why conditionality doesn't work:👇
