What happened in Joburg is heartbreaking. This was avoidable if they had only let us do our jobs to reclaim the hijacked buildings. I'm concerned this is only the start and unless something is done urgently, more lives are going to be lost.

The list of high risk buildings is there. It was compiled under the @HermanMashaba era as Joburg Mayor. In our short tenure under the MPG this was still Mashaba's #1 priority. We had re-initiated the process to issue the buildings to the private sector.

COJ needs to work with the SAPS, Home Affairs, DOJ & Human Settlements to find a solution to deal with the NGO's with a vested interest.
