Last week was a busy week for me, joggling between work, the fight for the freedom of our people held in several prisons in Nigeria, the release of our Onyendu, my husband, #NnamdiKanu, Nnabuikem’s school activities, homework and weekend activities, catching up on the administrative part of the charities that I run.
As you know, I attended the APPG Launch on Arbitrary detention and hostage affairs of British citizens at the House of Commons on Tuesday the 8th of October 2024 where I met dignitaries with the "Art of speaking truth to power".
I also met Richard Ratcliffe for the first time and the little angel, Gabriella. I have always cited his wife Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe but never knew fate would bring us together.
In 2015-2017, and for the past 3 years, our line of support has been through the @fcdo who only assign consular officer to the affected person. Even the court could not help us understand why the UK government has lagged in the involvement of resolution of the arbitrary detention of my husband and so many other British Citizens held in China, Egypt, Iran, etc.
This is due to their policy which keeps them away from dealing with such situations. Even in most countries where they have leverage, they are reluctant and unwilling to engage in resolutions. This is why UK is on the top list of countries with no concern for their citizens.
Ireland is doing better as are in line with the US, Canada, Australia who have their special envoys ready to engage in such matters.
Hence, APPG has laid bare the platform to help
. pressure the new government and eradicate the silo system with no coherent strategy in this department
. bring some assistance to the affected family knowing that this situation rubs us off part of our lives.
And the ludicrous thing we must face, apart from other noises in our lives is that we must deal with the government holding our loved ones and deal with the government of where we live!
The Nigerian government committed an international crime and has not heeded to any of the judgement of their own court! And that, is a resounding error.
