#OTD in 1757, the Marquis de Lafayette was born in France. Lafayette, who was commissioned as a major general in the Continental Army at the age of 19, was often a guest @SchuylerMansion. He wore the sword now in Schuyler's study when he was in Albany on his 1824 tour of the USA.

#OTD in 1757, Elizabeth Schuyler was born in Albany to Philip and Catharine Van Rensselaer Schuyler. She was their second child, born about a year and a half after her older sister, Angelica. Her father recorded her birth in the back of the family bible, writing:
