Naturalist. Backpacker. Hiker. Artist. Owned by house rabbits. Vegan. Rural pediatrician--retired after PGY-38. ๐บ๐ธ ๐ฎ๐น Be kind, always. SARS-2 smart.
After my 4 partners voted in February to end the mask requirement in our pediatrics office I decided to retire early. An employee in the office told me about a staff meeting last week in which the partners discussed how to "de-COVID" the office. 1/3
@hannahspierMD 1/Hannah, we have now almost 500,000 peer reviewed published research into long covid now. โFatigueโ, โpost exertional malaise (PEM)โ โBrain Fogโ โdifficulty concentratingโ are not psychiatric symptoms. They have a pathological basis and clear demonstrable abnormalities 1/
@chaitrovert Physician colleagues declared SARS-2 to be endemic in 2023. "We have to learn to live with the virus." Translation: no masks, no testing, no worries.
I wonder if they have learned about Long COVID yet.
@libriscent My 38 year old nephew, a malignant narcissist, has lived with 6 women so far. The pattern of emotional abuse develops again with each one and the woman finally escapes. We are waiting for #7.
@1goodtern During a recent group hike, I met a college prof who, upon learning that I am a physician, told me he has post-viral syndrome with cognitive impairment. I said, "That is also known as Long COVID."
@Queeneth01olx I had to end a long-time friendship after recognizing how controlling and uncaring she was becoming. She changed our vacation reservation before calling me. People reveal their character. I was done.
@tweetzbyidil Read Robert Sutton's book, The No A$$hole Rule. It focuses on how bad managers destroy morale in companies. This problem is prevalent in corporations.
Some therapists speak of
trauma work
shadow work
family of origin work
dream work
parts work
attachment work
as if they were separate things or special skills.
Psychodynamic therapists donโt use these terms. Theyโre all just the bread and butter of psychotherapy.
*Any* meaningful course of psychotherapy includes all or most of these elements.
We also have a special name for these ways of working. We call it โpsychotherapy.โ
@FixingEducation Kindergartners are also expected to read within a few months of the start of the school year, even though most kids are not developmentally ready to read til about age 7. The kids who struggle with reading in K then believe they are "stupid." Let kids play.
@drterrysimpson MD here with 35+ years as a rural pediatrician. I was on the med school admissions committee for 2 yrs. Applications are so similar--high GPA, high MCAT scores, laudatory LORs, research. The interviews gave me the best glimpse at an applicant's character.
@educator4ever36 This is parenting failure. Until the 1970s the majority of toddlers were toilet trained by age 24 months. Yes. The longer parents wait, the harder it is. It's like training puppies: it's far easier to start at 2 months than at 12 months.
