I know now why I can eat so many excess calories (currently around 700 every day) and not add body fat. I'm close to 4,500 calories, mainstreaam definetly would call half of my calories absolute junk, and I'm just not adding body fat. It might be my high daily glycine and taurine intake.
Mainstream advice treats protein as interchangeable calories. Twenty grams of chicken equals twenty grams of fish equals twenty grams of beef in their simplistic worldview.
A new study demolishes that notion using a simple experiment that reveals something most nutritionists refuse to acknowledge: the amino acid composition of your protein source directly affects whether you get fat or stay lean.
Researchers fed obesity-prone mice high-fat, high-sucrose diets (the kind that reliably makes mice fat) but varied only the protein source. Four groups: chicken, cod, crab, and scallop. Same macros. Same caloric density. Only the protein quality differed.
The scallop-fed mice didn't get fat. Complete prevention of diet-induced obesity despite eating a diet designed to cause obesity. The other three groups gained weight as expected. The difference wasn't trivial. We're talking complete protection versus predictable weight gain on identical calorie intakes.
The mechanism reveals itself when you examine the amino acid profiles. Scallop protein contains exceptionally high levels of taurine and glycine.
These two amino acids correlated negatively with body mass gain and fat accumulation across all groups. Every other amino acid correlated positively with fat gain. Read that again. Higher intake of standard amino acids predicted weight gain. Higher intake of taurine and glycine predicted leanness.
This aligns perfectly with Peat's understanding of protein quality. Most animal proteins deliver excessive methionine, cysteine, and tryptophan relative to glycine and taurine.
These ratios matter for thyroid function, liver metabolism, and fat oxidation. Scallop protein provides the opposite ratio, flooding the system with glycine and taurine while keeping the problematic amino acids in check.
The metabolic effects extended beyond body composition. Scallop-fed mice showed dramatically reduced plasma triglycerides, free fatty acids, glycerol, and ketone bodies during fasting.
This indicates reduced lipolysis and improved metabolic efficiency. Their bodies weren't desperately breaking down fat stores because they weren't in a stressed, catabolic state. Lower liver mass in scallop-fed mice suggests reduced fat accumulation and inflammatory stress in hepatic tissue.
Cholesterol metabolism improved substantially. The HDL to total cholesterol ratio increased in both fasted and fed states. Mainstream medicine obsesses over lowering cholesterol with drugs. This study shows that proper amino acid ratios naturally optimize cholesterol transport and clearance without pharmaceutical intervention.
Feed efficiency dropped in scallop-fed mice. They extracted less energy from food yet maintained lean mass while losing fat. This contradicts the calorie-is-a-calorie dogma.
The body's handling of nutrients depends entirely on metabolic context, hormone status, and nutrient quality. Apparent nitrogen digestibility also decreased, suggesting the scallop protein triggered different metabolic pathways than the other protein sources.
Energy intake was lower in crab and scallop groups, but only scallop prevented obesity. This means appetite regulation alone doesn't explain the effect.
The scallop protein actively prevented fat storage through metabolic mechanisms independent of calorie intake. Lean mass remained constant across all groups, confirming that the anti-obesity effect came from reduced fat accumulation, not muscle wasting.
The practical implications are straightforward. If you're eating chicken breast as your primary protein because some fitness guru told you it's lean and healthy, you're potentially choosing the worst option for body composition.
The study directly compared chicken to superior protein sources and chicken performed poorly. Cod performed marginally better. Crab and scallop dominated.
Taurine and glycine aren't exotic compounds requiring pharmaceutical intervention. They're abundant in certain foods and nearly absent in others. Scallops, oysters, and other shellfish provide massive doses.
Collagen and gelatin supply glycine in quantities impossible to obtain from muscle meats. Bone broth made properly extracts both. These aren't supplements. They're foods mainstream nutrition ignores because they don't fit the lean-protein-complex-carbs-healthy-fats narrative.
The study used a high-fat, high-sucrose diet to induce obesity. This wasn't a low-fat, whole-grain, vegetable-heavy protocol. The mice ate fat and sugar. Yet proper protein quality completely prevented obesity under these conditions. This suggests that protein quality matters more than carbohydrate or fat intake for body composition in metabolically stressed states.
Conventional nutritionists will dismiss this as a mouse study. They'll claim it doesn't apply to humans. They'll ignore it because it contradicts their protein recommendations. And yet here I am with my example. Having no issuess with muscle mass eating no meat, just dairy protein from goat milk plus a lot of collagen hydrosolate + exrta glycine +extra taurine.
The biochemistry of amino acid metabolism is conserved across mammals. Taurine and glycine perform the same functions in human metabolism. The liver processes amino acids identically. The mechanisms aren't species-specific.
Most people are glycine deficient. Muscle meat provides inadequate glycine relative to methionine. This imbalance stresses detoxification pathways, impairs collagen synthesis, and disrupts metabolic function.
Adding glycine through supps, or gelatin or bone broth corrects this ratio. Taurine deficiency is equally common in populations eating primarily muscle meat with minimal shellfish consumption.
The obesity epidemic corresponds perfectly with increased consumption of muscle meat and decreased consumption of whole animal foods including organs, bones, and shellfish.
Modern diets provide excessive methionine and tryptophan with inadequate glycine and taurine. This study demonstrates the metabolic consequences of that imbalance.
You don't need scallops specifically. Any protein source high in glycine and taurine produces similar effects. Oysters, mussels, clams, shrimp, and other shellfish work.
Collagen and gelatin supply glycine in therapeutic amounts. Bone broth made with cartilage-rich bones provides both. The key is shifting your amino acid intake away from pure muscle meat toward these neglected protein sources.
I don't take a lot of time for cooking, so I'm just taking the collagen and the amino acids in my daily Skyr with honey. That's very easy to do, and glycine and taurine are also very cheap.
The dose matters. The mice in the study consumed scallop protein as their primary protein source for six weeks. Sprinkling collagen powder in your coffee once daily won't replicate these effects.
I have a substantial intake of high-glycine, high-taurine proteins replacing significant portions of muscle meat consumption. This means either multiple servings of shellfish weekly or daily gelatin supplementation in meaningful amounts.
Personally, I eat daily 30 to 40 grams of collagen + 3 to 5 grams of glycine and 5 to 7 grams of Taurine. This is not a recommendation or medical or any other form of dosage advice. Do your own research. Ask a doctor who has an interest in this kind of hacks. This is what I do. With my activity levels and muscle mass and under my full personal responsibility.
The study confirms what traditional diets understood intuitively. Cultures that remained metabolically healthy consumed whole animals including cartilage, skin, organs, and shellfish.
They didn't isolate muscle meat and discard everything else. Modern nutrition stripped away this wisdom and replaced it with chicken breast and protein powder. The metabolic consequences are evident in obesity rates.
This research provides a clear path forward. Reduce muscle meat consumption. Increase shellfish, gelatin, and bone broth intake. Prioritize protein sources naturally high in glycine and taurine.
Monitor your body composition and metabolic markers. The changes will manifest in reduced fat accumulation, improved lipid profiles, and better metabolic health without calorie restriction or increased exercise.
The mainstream won't acknowledge this. They'll continue recommending lean chicken breast, red meat and whey protein while obesity rates climb. They'll prescribe statins for cholesterol instead of fixing amino acid ratios.
They'll ignore the elegant simplicity of this intervention because it doesn't require pharmaceutical products or complicated dietary protocols.
Your protein source determines your metabolic fate more than your total protein intake. Choose accordingly.

In the late 1960s, an ophthalmologist named Fritz Hollwich wrote something that reads almost uncomfortably well in 2025.
He argued that stress of any kind increases adrenal output, that prolonged stress leads to abnormalities and pathology, and that sensory input from the environment can only be tolerated up to what our regulatory systems are able to accommodate⬅️
BINGO.
Beyond that point, regulation fails.
What mattered most in his warning wasn’t stress alone, but how the environment delivers it. Hollwich was explicit that environmental influences act through the sensory organs, especially the eye, and that artificial light differs fundamentally from sunlight in its composition and biological effect.
He went so far as to say artificial light should only ever be supplementary, never a replacement, and warned that children educated in windowless schools would eventually show pathological consequences.
That wasn’t metaphor. It was systems biology before we had the language for it.
Fast forward to now.
We live inside a constant sensory flood without fluctuations. Screens, LEDs, RF, non-native EMF. Signals the human regulatory system never evolved to interpret continuously. Biology adapts because it has to.
Mitochondria shift redox balance.
Membrane potentials change.
Hormonal axes compensate.
Regulatory systems stretch until they can’t.
What we’re calling modern disease patterns aren’t random failures. They look like attempted cellular and mitochondrial adaptations to an alien signaling environment.
Hollwich didn’t know about melanopsin, mitochondrial electron backpressure, or dopamine timing. But he understood this clearly: regulation has limits, sensory input is dose-dependent, and pathology appears when the signal overwhelms the system.

We didn’t change biology.

Even if you accept the official numbers, 1 in 2,600 kids who get the COVID shot develop myocarditis… that’s a life long, life threatening injury.

Ancient Middle East, roughly 1000 BCE. Multiple religions suddenly develop prohibitions against pork. Judaism, Islam, later various Christian sects. The explanation given is hygiene. Pork carries trichinosis. It's "unclean."
But here's the interesting part: Cattle and sheep carry diseases too. Anthrax, brucellosis, various parasites. Yet beef and lamb are deemed clean and acceptable.
The real reason for pork prohibition is economic and political. Pigs are democratic animals. They're easy to raise. Any peasant family can keep a pig, feed it scraps, and have meat for winter. Pigs don't require large grazing lands. They convert waste into protein efficiently.
Cattle and sheep, however, require pasture. Land. Lots of it. Land that must be controlled, owned, managed. Land that concentrates in the hands of those wealthy enough to hold it.
In ancient societies, if everyone can raise pigs, everyone has access to meat. Power disperses. But if meat requires cattle grazing on large estates, meat access becomes controllable.
The priests and rulers who established dietary laws weren't idiots. They understood that pork democratized protein access. A peasant with a pig was independent. A peasant dependent on beef from landlord's cattle was controlled.
The "unclean" designation wasn't about parasites. It was about power.
This pattern repeats through history. Medieval European nobility consumed pork freely while peasants were restricted. Victorian England saw pork associated with lower classes while beef signified wealth and status.
Modern industrial agriculture has inverted some of this. Factory-farmed pork became cheap commodity meat. But the cultural associations remain. Beef is prestigious. Pork is common.
The interesting thing is pork is nutritionally excellent. High in fat, rich in B vitamins, contains all essential amino acids. It's particularly high in thiamine, crucial for metabolism.
But it was shamed, restricted, and prohibited not because it was inferior, but because it was too accessible.
When everyone can access protein, hierarchies flatten. The elites have always understood this. That's why pork was made "unclean" while beef and lamb were sanctified.
Control the meat supply, control the population. If that meat supply is too easy to produce independently, demonize it.

And what followed was 200 years of steady improvement, with engines getting 20% better a decade.
For the first 120 years of that steady improvement, horses didn't notice at all.
Then, between 1930 and 1950, 90% of the horses in the US disappeared.
Progress in engines was steady. Equivalence to horses was sudden.
Let's talk about how long it takes for obviously wrong medical advice to change.
1950s: Doctors recommend smoking to pregnant women.
"It calms the nerves. Helps with stress."
Evidence of harm: Mounting.
How long until doctors stop recommending it: 20+ years.
1960s: Thalidomide prescribed to pregnant women for morning sickness.
Causes severe birth defects. Thousands of children born with missing limbs.
Evidence of harm: Immediate and catastrophic.
How long until it's banned: Took 5 years in some countries. US narrowly avoided approval.
1970s: DES (diethylstilbestrol) prescribed to prevent miscarriage.
Causes cancer and reproductive problems in daughters of women who took it.
Evidence of harm: Mounting throughout the decade.
How long until discontinued: 11 years after first concerns.
1990s: Margarine recommended over butter for heart health.
Evidence: Trans fats in margarine actually cause heart disease.
How long until trans fats banned: 25 years.
2000s: Vioxx approved for arthritis pain.
Causes heart attacks. Killed an estimated 60,000 people.

"They're safe! Not addictive!"
Evidence: Massively addictive. Destroying lives.
How long until restrictions: 20+ years. Only after epidemic is undeniable.
The pattern is clear:
Medical establishment recommends something.
Evidence of harm emerges.
Establishment ignores evidence.
Years or decades pass.
Harm becomes undeniable.
Establishment slowly reverses course.

Remember: They've been catastrophically wrong before.
