HPC uses Time-of-Use rates (higher when demand is high, lower when it’s not) due to the wholesale cost of energy. Good news: Before 5 PM & after 8 PM on weekdays, rates are 50%+ lower! Save by doing: laundry after 8 PM; pre-heating/cooling before 5 PM; & dishwasher after 11 PM.

Electricity has to be produced the exact second it's used. The highest demand happens during 5-8 pm. As people arrive home, use the AC, & start dinner, electricity spikes. To keep the lights on, the grid has to quickly produce much more power.
