@sergeian @VendyGold @georgegalloway No thats a transparently flimsey excuse, at best. Putin invaded simply because his plan A using a soft coup via a puppet failed. Reportedly he said the following day, 'we must take Crimea'. It had nothing to do with protecting anyone.

In Febuary 2014 Russia invaded Crimea, reportedly planned from the day after Yanukovych 'fled' the country to Russia, via Crimea. I assume before vote.

What has changed is it isnt an official language of the government, and that following Russias fomenting of its phony independence movements in East Ukraine when it sent paid mercenaries over the border.
