🇸🇴🇮🇷🇪🇬 Somali pirates have hijacked a tanker with 8 Egyptian sailors onboard. It's the 4th hijacking in two weeks. The Iran war is why.

The M/T Eureka, carrying 2,800 tons of diesel, was seized on May 2 off Yemen's coast by nine armed Somali gunmen and steered to Puntland, Somalia. 12 sailors were onboard, Egyptian and Indian. Egypt's foreign ministry is now trying to secure their release through its Mogadishu embassy.

Here's the detail no one is covering: officials directly attribute the piracy surge to the Hormuz war. Every naval force that used to patrol the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea has been redeployed to deal with Iran.

The security vacuum they left behind? Somali pirates walked straight into it. Meanwhile, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is busy cancelling elections, trying to cling to power past his May 15 mandate, and turning a blind eye to these piracies happening right under his nose. UK maritime authorities have already raised the Somalia threat level to "substantial."

The Iran war is not only blocking one waterway, but reopening another crisis everyone thought was over.
