A bit of insight into the absolute mayhem Amazon is putting its sellers through right now:
On average for the past few months, I’ve averaged over $10k in sales per day. Today I should end up around $2,200 or so- roughly an 80% drop
I have roughly $250,000 in inventory on ice / cannot sell currently due to several notices that went out about 12 hours before my selling privileges were revoked yesterday evening. Amazon provided no explanation, no accusation of wrongdoing, and no proposed path to resolution
The crazy part is I consider myself one of the lucky ones as I’ve been, in aggregate, stepping back and diversifying away from the brands that were impacted
There are other sellers with $500k to $15 million (or more) in stranded inventory that cannot be sold and will likely have to be removed, causing a cascading effect of removal fees as one final nice kick in the ass to Amazon’s ‘selling partners’ 🤡 . I mention this to illustrate this is far from an attack on your ‘little guy reseller’
What does this mean for the Amazon reselling space? I can tell you it doesn’t mean anything good. Many people will have their businesses crushed by this recent wave and take weeks or months to move through the inventory they’ve stacked up, assuming nothing changes
I had personally thought that if you purchased authentic products, provided good customer support, and kept your account health in order, you would be good to go- life could be great! You can even see in the screenshot below- “Your store is health”. What a f*cking joke 😂
My mind immediately goes to my prep centers, my virtual assistant, and my mentorship members if Amazon decides to start forcing sellers off their platform. My business directly impacts and supports other small business owners and a woman with a newborn child in the Philippines. I’m sure whoever is making these calls doesn’t worry about what happens to those people if they shut their ‘selling partners’ 🤡 down…
The even more crazy part is that something like this happened on September 3 of this year. Mass regating, product restrictions, pandemonium. On September 6, Amazon sent an email that it was all a mistake and all restrictions were lifted from those that were impacted. I’m sure many people are praying that is the case now
While it remains to be seen what will happen, it’s insane to think that Amazon can monopolize online sales, encourage & beg their “selling partners” 🤡 to send in inventory before peak sales season (late November and early December), and then rug pull them right after they’ve spent (hundreds of) thousands or millions of dollars to make the Amazon a diverse and robust marketplace able to fulfill orders around the country efficiently and cheaply
Again, I reiterate this could all be undone with a simple ‘we f*cked up’ email, but this will surely leave a bitter taste in sellers’ mouths and likely drive many to a new line of business
Will keep you all updated and remain as transparent as possible. Stay strong, remain optimistic, but start to plan for the worst if you were impacted by these regates (start to figure out where you’ll sell the impacted inventory)
Cheers
