@Spearhead_Af It’s disappointing to see history repeating itself. While maritime cooperation is a win for trade, it should never come at the cost of judicial sovereignty. Granting immunity essentially creates a legal vacuum where Kenyan citizens are secondary to foreign interests.
When the rights of local people are respected, new trades happen, new technologies happen, new public services happen. This challenges conventional wisdom about the “benevolent autocrats” behind many success stories.
The real cause of poverty is the unchecked power of the state against poor people without rights. Rights are never secure when restraints on state power are absent, or when the principle of equal rights for all individuals in all spheres of activity is not recognized.
Morally neutral approaches to poverty do not exist. Any approach to development will either respect the rights of the poor or it will violate them. One cannot avoid this moral choice by appealing to “non-ideological evidence-based policies”.
@GovLeeKinyanjui Will the adjustment of fuel standards result in commensurate decrease in prices? Consumers shouldn’t pay premium prices for low grade fuel
@wanjirunjira So long as taxpayer continues to pay for actions of overzealous police officers, who are following unconstitutional directives, impunity will continue. Criminal justice systems need to identify those culpable & hold them accountable, as individuals, including paying compensation
@wanjirunjira Compensation for the victims and survivors of police excesses is an excellent idea. But who should pay; why should taxpayers shoulder that burden? Surely the police weren't killing and maiming on behalf of Kenyans. So, culpability must be individual.
@MutemiWaKiama A contingent of Kenyan police have recently returned from Haiti where they were fighting criminal gangs. Those who are sponsoring the thugs we have seen walking alongside police, robbing citizens with reckless abandon, did they think of how Haiti got to situation it is in?
@MutemiWaKiama Someone may think that its politically expedient to recruit and maintain thugs to intimidate/harass political opponents...
Unfortunately, the moment state cedes its monopoly of violence to non state actors, then it is on downward spiral to failure.
@MutemiWaKiama Even assuming that security agencies weren't aware, the number of motorcycles and distance covered are significant for security agencies not to have noted and organized a response. This leads to inevitable conclusion of complicity or someone sleeping on the job
@KenyaPower_Care
Our power supply hasn't been restored 27 hours later despite assurances that matter was being addressed. Initial ref no 14416724 which someone dishonestly marked as resolved; hence a new reference (14419597) issued. When can we expect resolution?
@KenyaPower_Care@KenyaPower_Care
Our supply is yet to be restored. We are disappointed that a new reference number was issued without our knowledge because someone lied that the matter is resolved. Please let us know when our connection will be restored
@KenyaPower_Care
We have had outage since 7:30am. Unfortunately, customer support representatives don’t know when supply will be restored. We’d appreciate your attention to this matter. My complaint is under ref no 14416724
@KenyaPower_Care We are still waiting for power to be restored. It is now close to 12 hours since we lost power and no one is giving us update on when it will be restored. Is there a team on the ground looking into the situation?
@LarryMadowo I see distinguished jurists such as Hon Othman Chande who have served in UN Fact Finding Missions in Sudan, Ethiopia and have called out perpetrators. Hopefully, they will live up to reputations they’ve established
