“Success isn’t what I wear, drive, or display, it’s the discipline, resilience, and vision that built the life I live. Wealth is temporary; the mindset that creates it is priceless.”
If you’re a fan of Will Howard, I think the Mike McCarthy hire gives him as good of a shot as anyone to develop into this team’s next franchise QB.
First, McCarthy’s hire increases the chances if Aaron Rodgers returning for another year, which would give Will another year to learn from the future Hall of Famer & develop inside McCarthy’s offense for a year before potentially getting a chance to take the reigns himself. Rodgers’ return would also decrease the chances of PIT taking a QB early in the draft this year, which also helps Howard’s chances of getting a shot to be QB1 down the road.
Also, McCarthy helped develop both Aaron Rodgers and Dak Prescott into 2 of some of the most intelligent QBs in the NFL over the last 20 years, and if Dak (a former 4th round pick) could develop as nicely as he did in this system, it may give Will (who was also a day 3 pick) his best chance at developing into a bonafide starting option for Pittsburgh down the road.
To be clear, I’m not saying Howard will definitely be this team’s long-term solution at the QB position, just that if he’s gonna develop into that under anybody, it would likely be under a head coach and playcaller like McCarthy with multiple years to sit and develop behind an all-time great like Rodgers.
