@sarapayy I really see the "you" as each character's addressing of herself, her own demons and regrets. I think the best second person narratives has a dissociative effect. Pam Houston calls it the Ashamed I.
@sarapayy All of the above. I began writing separate stories, and my mentor Melissa Pritchard helped me recognize connections. Then I was able to create connections organically, and that sped up the process. I did a lot of mapping at the end to keep it all straight.
@sarapayy I love a good peripheral narrative. When a narrator puts all the emphasis on someone else's drama, they are almost always not confronting their own drama. The question of their "through story" becomes important.
