Last night, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) did something no one with a heart could ever justify. They demolished the bird and pet market in Lahore — and with it, buried thousands of innocent lives alive.

If the market was built illegally, demolish it — but move the tiny lives first. Those cats, dogs, birds, and rabbits were not criminals. They were living, breathing beings who depended on humans for mercy.

Islam teaches that taking one innocent life is like killing all of humanity. Yet, they buried countless souls without a second thought. Can anyone imagine if nature takes revenge and buries us alive the same way? We’ve already seen signs — horrific earthquakes and floods that remind us of how powerless we are before the Creator.

Have we learned nothing? Where is our humanity? The cries of those helpless beings still echo — and our silence makes us part of this cruelty.

Please speak up. Raise your voice for the voiceless before we lose the right to ask for mercy ourselves.

According to local accounts, at approximately 4 AM last night, the LDA conducted a demolition operation at the pet and bird market. The market housed pigeons, birds, cats, rabbits, and puppies all of which were kept in cages. Despite the pleas of shopkeepers, the demolition was carried out without providing sufficient time to evacuate the animals resulting in significant loss of life.

The shopkeepers state that the demolition order reached the local police station at the same time the operation began. Police were present only to manage law and order, not to intervene.

The market head (Sardar) reported that LDA officials had previously met with market representatives at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where they mutually agreed on a two day period to relocate the animals and belongings. However despite this commitment, the operation was initiated abruptly at 4 AM, before the animals could be safely removed.
The officers reportedly involved in planning and executing the operation include Ehtisham and Arsalan, with involvement from Zahid Abbas, Iqrar Hussain, and Shabir Hussain.

May the cries of those helpless animals echo in the hearts of those who destroyed them. This government may have broken cages but they revealed the emptiness of their own humanity
