It may have been a Modern Languages trip but the English Department represented themselves well by visiting the Shakespeare and Company Bookstore in Paris this week. A magical place for book lovers! And the Phantom Manor at Disney had distinct Miss Havisham vibes...

Our Advanced Higher pupils recently visited the Mitchell Library (@GlasgowLib) to conduct research and secondary reading for their dissertations. It was a rewarding and studious trip, and excellent preparation for further study. Thanks to the Mitchell, and to Mrs T and Mrs S!

Congratulations to last year's English prize winners, who received books as rewards this week. They chose their prizes from the @PenguinUKBooks Lit in Colour collection we recently won. Well done!

Thanks to @RobinScottEllio for gifting two books to our department! The books have been passed on to pupils in the Junior Book Club to read, review and recommend to other pupils.

Congratulations to Tabitha Weir, who has been awarded First Place in the senior group of the Helensburgh Rotary Young Writer 2018 Competition! Tabitha's story will now be entered into the District (West of Scotland) stage of the competition. Well done, Tabitha! Good luck!

Congratulations to CJ George and Aubrey Agub who beat off fierce competition to win both the Junior and Senior regional heats of the English Speaking Union Public Speaking Competition. Both speakers now progress to the National Finals in March which will be held in Edinburgh.
