Even though I do not align politically with Kamala Harris, it is disappointing to hear that dozens of millions of dollars was not enough $$ for her campaign, but billionaires with no experience can buy their way in. Not good for our democracy to be so expensive. #SWO332
Rep. Omar’s positive and compassionate response to hate seems very founded in Social Work ideals of rehabilitation rather than retribution. This also takes a lot of courage on her part. #SWO332
Sharing my full letter on the the sentencing of Patrick W. Carlineo, a man convicted of threatening my life.
We must apply a system of compassion to criminal justice.
Who are we as a nation if we respond to threats of political retribution with retribution ourselves?
As someone who is passionate about criminal justice reform, I completely support this movement for change. This change follows the social work values. #SWO332
The primary goal of a criminal justice system should not be punishment, but whenever possible, rehabilitation.
When I am president, we will no longer spend $80 billion locking up more people than any other nation.
Our goal will be to reduce our incarcerated population by half.
I agree with this. My mom works 7a-7:30p, so the only way she could vote is by leaving work early. If this is a democracy, everyone should have the equal opportunity to vote. #swo332
We are one year out from the most important election of our lifetime.
We know justice is on the ballot. We’ve got to organize, mobilize, and fight to ensure we finally say goodbye to the national nightmare we call Donald Trump and elect Democrats up and down the ballot.
It is so important that politicians recognize the negative impact that the War on Drugs has had on communities. I am excited to hear our debate groups presentation about this topic. #SWO332
We must legalize marijuana, but that is not all. We will also ensure that revenue from legal marijuana is reinvested in communities hit hardest by the War on Drugs, especially African-American and other communities of color.
@Lil_Princey215 I completely agree with you! I think it’s really difficult for many Americans to realize how cops (the institution that many people are raised to trust completely) can be really harmful and destructive. #SWO332
I am researching the negative effects of spanking children for another class, and I am wondering how social workers would react to this form of discipline. Any thoughts? #SWO332

When you realize how little people actually receive in food stamps, this proposed cut is incredibly harsh. Food stamps helped my family during an economically tough time, and it is hard to see that others won’t receive that same help. #SWO332
The Trump administration has moved to cut funding to the U.S. food stamps program for the 3rd time. The latest proposed cut would slice $4.5 billion from the program over 5 years, trimming monthly benefits by as much as $75 for 1 in 5 struggling families. https://t.co/EZa6aM6O2w
American-born citizens should become more aware of the struggles immigrants face so that they can have more empathy and understanding. Immigrants are not criminals, they are refugees looking for safety for their families. #SWO332
At the Latino/a conference, I learned a lot of in-depth information regarding the struggles that immigrants face to get to this country. For instance, I was unaware of “La Bestia” the extremely dangerous train that goes through Mexico #SWO332
@ProfDente One of the readings mentioned how the media stigmatizes victims of anti-Trans hate by using mugshot photos, and this reminds me of what we learned about #IfTheyGunnedMeDown#SWO332
@hannahlewis01 @ProfDente I definitely agree! I do not remember ever learning about LGBT sexual health or relationships in public school, and this puts a lot of people at risk for sexually transmitted diseases and stigma #SWO332
It is great that we are having this conversation on #BiVisibilityDay ! As a bi women who has felt shame for her identity, I know that education and awareness are essential for fighting hate and ignorance. We need to accept and love everyone and their identity !! #SWO322
