Pedestrian push buttons (“Beg Buttons”) are back at city council this week. Staff are once again proposing minimal changes despite repeated direction to let people cross the street without having to push one. Here’s background and my letter to council. https://t.co/0k44GZ1n6m
@danp128 It’s nice to see these improvements, but they seem timid. Every vehicle lane is still wider than NACTO-recommended limits for urban streets, and the bikelane is narrower than the 12’ desirable width for a two-way cycle track. Could be way more room for people instead of vehicles.
@thesaltyfog @danp128 I think the 3m gap just to the west of the island is to let cyclists in and out of the Gottingen section, but it’s still going to be awkward and hard to figure out.
@brewnoser @EndHfx I’m not saying to prevent busses from using the hotel’s driveway, merely worried that they’ll use the bike lane as a parking spot like they do currently.
Big changes coming to the South Park bike lane north of Spring Garden. Remember the painted lane full of parked cars that disappeared when you really needed it? Now it’ll be a continuous raised bike lane all the way to Sackville. Tender docs here: https://t.co/ZobRCdcZMg
Also remember that while we’re spending all this effort to make it safer for people on bikes, Black, Indigenous, and other people of colour are still over-policed and don’t feel safe on our supposedly-public streets. This should be the lede instead of an afterthought.
Correction: that photo of the ice-filled bike lane should be credited to our illustrious bike mayor @jbbikes. She’s awesome, and can be counted on to send you that photo you need on a moment’s notice.
