A sitar has strings the player never touches. They sit under the main strings, and they make their own sound but only when a played note matches how they're tuned.
The part I keep thinking about is how they have to be tuned beforehand. The vibrations won't reach them unless they were already set to answer.
Most of what moves you works like that. You don't decide in the moment what comes in and moves you. Something you tuned long ago, without noticing, decides for you.
The response comes from a part of you that you don't play.
@roguewealth The slop will eventually turn gourmet?
I hope LLMs will become more sophisticated with improved and more selective training sets.
If they don't then I think it's a horrible missed opportunity.
@signulll Mutual dislikes check a few of these boxes.
"People will do anything for those who encourage their dreams, justify their failures, allay their fears, confirm their suspicions, and help them throw rocks at their enemies." (Blair Warren)
The weight you're feeling almost never belongs to just today.
What makes you want to quit is the mind stacking every future day on top of this one and asking you to carry the whole pile at once.
The future isn't a load you're required to lift right now. It just feels like one because your mind keeps handing it to you all at once.
Get through today, thats it.
Its not just about energy tho, right?
Every other task yields to more push.. So we bring the same push here, and the push is what hides it. Since the one looking is the thing we're looking for, and it braces the moment it feels itself searched for.
However much energy you've got, the move is to stop bracing it.
Watch what happens when a public figure apologizes: the clip outlives the correction.
Every leader has run the math. Admitting error costs more than doubling down.
So the apologies stopped, everyone downstream learned the lesson, and humility became a losing strategy.
The hard parts of parenting, part 2,304:
"The best for your kid" arrives in your head pre-shaped like your own unlived life. The want never switches off.
The discipline is carrying it without handing them the bill.
Nobody plans 20 years ahead in a fog. A home, a career, kids, and all long bets assume your map of the world is roughly right.
Break the shared sense of what's true and citizens quit making long bets. The fog leaves people accurate about nothing and short-term about everything.
When you're at your lowest and a memory of someone you love(d) floods in and steadies you...
Is that about them, or about the comfort?
I can't fully tell. And I'm unsure the answer flatters me.
@MindMatter28 That call is easy to make and easy to skip for the same reason. We think they'll always be one number away.
It's an unconscious mistake. Facing that your parents won't always be there means feeling it now, while they're still here. So we put it off.
There are lies you tell, and there are lies you host: things you know are false and believe anyway.
"They'll change"
"It's fine"
"There's still time"
The strange thing is they have no power source except your belief. You are the outlet they're plugged into.
On a hike recently, we stuck to the main path. Saw another group slip down a hidden path. It was a shortcut home.
Behind us, another group watched us take it. Nobody spoke.
Knowledge moved through three groups of strangers via a dirt trail. The path was the intelligence.
You’d laugh at someone who called the exhale a failure of breathing.
Or sunset a failure of the sun.
Or the tide going out a failure of the ocean.
But then you treat your rest like a failure of productivity.
Nature runs on waves. So do you.
Here’s the uncomfortable reality:
Your spiritual to-do list is often the obstacle.
“I’ll pray more. Meditate more. Become the person who finally finds God.”
That’s just the future talking.
That’s the hiding place.
