Ana de Armas in 'Deep Water' (2022)

Ana de Armas brought a dangerous mix of charm, mystery, and unpredictability to Deep Water (2022).

Starring opposite Ben Affleck, she played Melinda Van Allen, a woman trapped in a deeply troubled marriage built on jealousy, resentment, and manipulation. De Armas gave the character an alluring but volatile presence, making it difficult to tell whether Melinda was reckless, calculating, or simply pushing back against a relationship that had already become toxic.

Directed by Adrian Lyne, Deep Water leaned heavily into psychological tension rather than traditional romance, allowing de Armas to explore one of the darker roles of her career. Her chemistry with Affleck helped drive the film’s unsettling atmosphere, with nearly every interaction carrying an undercurrent of suspicion and danger.

Although the film divided audiences, de Armas remained one of its most discussed elements. Her performance added complexity to a character who could easily have felt one-dimensional, making Deep Water another example of her ability to move between glamorous roles, thrillers, action films, and emotionally complicated dramas.
