This applies to Georgette Heyer's characters too, of course. Not a lot of new information in here for any dedicated Heyerite, but still very much worth a watch!
Patterns matched, pleats tweaked into place to fashion this pink striped #1770s gown, every single stitch worked by hand. The fabric has been changed this way and that to run in different directions for different effects culminating in the deep V at the back @Fashion_Museum
My favourite genre of book is a hardback I bought because I HAD TO READ IT IMMEDIATELY but still haven't read despite the paperback being out for at least 6 months and numerous copies being found in charity shops for just £1
Calling all Heyerites in St. Louis, Missouri! A dedicated Heyer reader has an enormous collection of Heyer novels to pass on, both in hardcover and paperback -- all you need to do is take some boxes over and the cache is all yours! Get in touch if you're interested...
@Austenprose@JenKloester We are so proud to have Jen as one of the Patronesses of the International Heyer Society. This inimitable work is just one of the reasons. A must-read not only for our fellow Heyerites, but for all fans of the Regency period... period! - RH
@JanetEmson REGENCY BUCK was Heyer's first ever Regency -- and, it can be argued, the first Regency Romance ever written. It's far from my favourite, but as a grounding in the era it is first rate, and absolutely essential reading. Best to read it early, so as to not hate it, really. - RH
@Valstevens24@AmandaPCraig Do come back to her! It's amazing how much the enjoyment of her works changes, as one matures. The favourites of your youth will perhaps not appeal so well, and those you didn't enjoy as much then will become your new favourites now. The depth is astounding!
@MaggieA@AmandaPCraig Oh, I quite love Heyer's use of exclamation marks, and feel they are employed judiciously -- she can delineate a joke, or a person's social status, or even someone's entire personality, merely through her punctuation choices. But, of course, that style is not for everyone. - RH
@moutet@AmandaPCraig Oh, this is FAR from the worst cover of THE UNKNOWN AJAX. But, yes, we'd all love to see Folio issues of all of Heyer's books, wouldn't we? What do you think will come next, now that we have VENETIA and ARABELLA in Folio editions? We're tipping FREDERICA for 2023.
@gmperriam It took me WAY too long to figure out that the answer is "kerseymere." And I really only got it by the process of Regency material elimination: "Superfine"? No. "Jackonet"? No. "Sarcenet"? No... - RH
This quirky (gorgeous!) period apartment complex in Melbourne makes me think of Heyer’s mysteries — can’t you just see the Vereker siblings living here, just being rude to everyone?
It's a good deal more sordid than Heyer's historical romps through France, but I still highly recommend the 2018 French film LADY J for its clever dialogue, gorgeous costuming, elegant revenge plot and consummate performances. - RH
#georgetteheyer 'Faro's Daughter' is arguably Georgette Heyer's most intensely emotional book - especially with regard to her hero, Max Ravenscar. Could we have the Luftwaffe to thank for that? https://t.co/Wag8sVw5Um
Love, love, LOVE this beautiful edition of Venetia from @foliosociety! Arrived today and already beloved. Is it just us or from a certain angle… is it, in fact, blue?
This #frockingfabulous caraco and petticoat are cool cotton, embroidered with grapevines. One for the #fridaynightfrills crew, and look at that divine fichu too! C.1789, via Palais Galliera, Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris.
